SNOW-Link

Steps

  1. Download template
Obtain the bulk upload template for the correct CI type (e.g., ESX) from ServiceNow or your internal documentation. (13)

  2. Fill in device information
    For each device, enter:

    • Hostname (e.g., PCP-ESX02)
    • FQDN (e.g., PCP-ESX02.se.abb.com)
    • Location ID & details (country, site, building, room/rack, rack position)
    • Operational status and sub-status (e.g., operational)
    • Install date (YYYY-MM-DD)
    • Server owner and server manager IDs (use ServiceNow internal IDs)
    • Server operations team and supplier (usually ABB unless managed by a third party)
    • Model ID (physical or virtual server type)
    • Serial number (service tag or vSphere serial)
    • IP address and subnet (e.g., 10.56.17.102/24)
    • OS (e.g., VMware ESXi), version, and architecture
    • CPU details (name, number, cores)
    • RAM (in GB, not MB)
    • Storage (allocated, in GB)
    • Service level classification (if required)
    • Usage (production, development, etc.)
    • Cost center, owning company, division, and cost center owner ID (14)
  3. Naming standards
Follow the country–function–number format (e.g., SE-PA-01) per local or global naming standards. Reference DNS naming documentation if needed. (15)

  4. Save and validate
Double-check all fields for accuracy—especially company codes and owner IDs. Save the file (typically an Excel spreadsheet). (16)

  5. Submit via ServiceNow
Open the ServiceNow bulk upload catalog item, attach the completed template, and provide a brief description. (17)

  6. Processing
Submit the request. The system will process the bulk upload and create the CIs. Monitor for errors or rejections, especially mismatches in company codes or owner IDs. (18)
